In the case of pure manufacturing projects (expansions and grass root projects), the majority of projected growth lies in vaccines, biotech and contract manufacturing (CMO). The industry a whole has realized it must continue to strengthen its research and development (R&D) pipeline, which helps to account for the large number of projects focusing on adding research capacity.

When considering technology and the Pharmaceutical & Biotech Industry, scientific evolution and technical innovation are key. Many of the innovations are prompted by regulatory bodies and others and, of course, by the industry itself.

Companies must continue to implement lean principles, including lean-office techniques in the nonmanufacturing areas, such as research and development, and will address ways to improve manufacturing performance and cut costs.
